AI Practice Studio: Foundations and Responsible Use

Generative AI is becoming an integral part of workplace learning, but effective use requires more than writing better prompts. Adult educators and workplace learning professionals must know when AI adds value, when careful verification is needed, and when professional judgement should take precedence.

This basic programme provides a practical foundation for using generative AI confidently, critically, and responsibly in adult education. Participants explore real learning-related use cases, apply structured prompting techniques, verify AI-generated outputs, and make informed decisions about privacy, attribution, disclosure, and ethical use. Through guided demonstrations, hands-on practice, case discussions, and an individual workplace-based assignment, learners build practical skills that can be applied immediately.

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to use AI more effectively while maintaining the quality, credibility, and professional standards expected in adult education and workplace learning.

Together with AI Creation Studio: Learning Resources, Media, and Workflow Prototypes, this basic programme forms the foundation of the IAL-AISG (ADAPT) series. Participants who complete both programmes will receive a joint IAL-AISG certificate.

This CPD is positioned for educators, trainers, and learning developers, not as a generic prompt-engineering workshop. The course is differentiated by its emphasis on professional judgement: not just getting better outputs, but deciding whether and how an output should be used at all.

Many professionals are already experimenting with GenAI, but the real challenge in adult education is knowing how to use AI responsibly in learning-related work: preparing learner guides, improving activity briefs, drafting facilitator instructions, adapting explanations for different audiences, generating formative question ideas, summarising public source material, or reviewing learner-facing content before use.

The course is deliberately tool-agnostic. Instead of locking participants into one platform, it helps them understand current categories of capability, such as text generation, file analysis, multimodal input, project spaces, custom assistants, and export or collaboration features, where these are available. Because AI tools change quickly, the course uses adaptable principles and illustrative frameworks rather than fixed platform recipes.

Participants leave with a clearer sense of how AI can support adult education work, how to ask for better outputs, how to check what the tool produces, and how to decide whether an output can be used responsibly with learners, clients, colleagues, or stakeholders. The course supports ADAPT-aligned development in Digital and AI Literacy, Critical Evaluation and Information Quality, and Ethics and Licensing at Basic level.
